COORDINATOR

Mr. Kalyan Banerjee, a renowned composer, singer and music director, is presently heading the Indian Music Department of the Bishop Canning Music Academy.

Mr. Bannerjee has been transforming the musical landscape of India through his soul stirring compositions for more than four decades. He is a fully trained and qualified singer and musician from Rabindra Bharati University. Honored as an Asian Hymn Composer, two of his compositions have been part of the Asian Liturgical (Hymn Book that is followed by almost all the churches globally. His compositions are sung by people all over the world.

Mr. Kalyan Bannerjcee has been previously associated as a music department head with various prestigious schools and causational institutions of Kolkata for more than 35 years like: The Assembly of God Church School, Park Street, The Future Foundation School, Ballygunge Siksha Sadan School, Gems Akademia International School and many more. He has played a crucial role as an examiner for the Indian School Certificate Examinations ISC, for the subject - Hindustani Music.

Mr. Bannerjee believes in shaping young minds by imparting quality education and training in the field of music.

COURSES OFFERED

VOCAL

The Department of Indian music offers Classical vocal classes where students are encouraged to learn

Kheyal (bascd on different Ragas). Thumri and other semi classical songs as well, like Geet, Ghazals etc. Students are encouraged to participate in concerts from time to time. These are group classes held once a week for one hour, under the guidance of fully trained and qualified teachers.

Other forms of songs like Rabindra Sangeet, Folk and other Bengali songs are also taught as well, under the able guidance of the teachers for cache category. Students are encouraged to learn the above and take part in different concerts. These classes are held in groups once a week, for one hour.

TABLA

The Department of Indian Music offers Tabla classes, with theory and practical lessons. Students are encouraged to learn classical and other forms of rhythm and prepare themselves for the examination. This will help them to come up to a performing level. Tabla classes are held in groups once a week, for one hour. 

BAMBO0 FLUTE 

The department of Indian Music also offers regular Bamboo flute classes under fully qualified and trained teachers, where students are taught to play the flute and prepare themselves to take examinations as well as prepare themselves for public performances in due course. This class is held in groups once a week, for one hour.

DANCE

The Department of Indian Music offers regular Dance classes under a trained and qualified dance teacher where the students are encouraged to learn Classical Dance like Bharat Natyam, Odisi, Kathak etc with theory and practical knowledge and prepare themselves for examinations, as well as take part in different programmes. The classes are held in groups once a week, for one hour.

Besides this, there are other dance forms that are also taught, like: Rabindra Nritya (based on different type of Rabindra Sangeet) folk dance of the different provinces and states and other Contemporary Dance forms. All the above classes are held in groups once a week for one hour under the able guidance of qualified dance teachers.

SITAR

The department of Indian Music offers regular Sitar classes under trained and qualified Sitar teachers where the students are encouraged to learn Sitar with theory and practical knowledge and prepare themselves for exams and take part in different programmes. This class is held in groups, once week for one hour.

ASSESSMENT

Eligible students are encouraged to appear in Music examinations conducted by Prachin Kala Kendra, Chandigarh.
