Message from the Founder Chairman
"Sing to the Lord a new song: play skillfully, and shout for joy”.
Psalm 33:3 (NIV)
It is with immense pleasure that I announce the auspicious inauguration of the Bishop Canning Music Academy, a vibrant new endeavour dedicated to cultivating the rich traditions of both Eastern and Western music. Nestled amidst the historic precincts of the Oxford Mission—a site resonant with cultural vibrancy and spiritual enrichment- this academy aspires to rekindle a legacy that has inspired countless generations.
Music, in its essence, is a universal language that transcends temporal and cultural boundaries, resonating deeply within the human spirit and fostering unity in diversity.
By offering comprehensive instruction across a diverse spectrum of instruments and vocal disciplines, our aspiration is to nurture not merely technical proficiency, but also a profound appreciation for the inherent beauty, discipline, and spiritual resonance that music imparts.
This new beginning serves as both a heartfelt tribute to the enduring cultural heritage of the Mission and a step forward in empowering the minds and hearts of our youth through the transformative gift of music. May this academy flourish as a sanctuary for creativity, scholarly pursuit, and artistic expression, and may its melodies resonate with the cherished values of love, unity, and excellence that we hold dear.
With prayerful wishes for the enrichment of every student who will journey through these hallowed halls of melody and meaning.
The Rt. Revd. Dr. Paritosh Canning
Bishop of Calcutta
